Mr Watson’s Place on the Web

Mr Watson’s place for ideas, resources and all things teaching!

What do you want to see here?

Posted by watseducation on July 14, 2008

I was thinking tonight about what to post next. I am trying to steal myself some moments to get the blog up and running and get the sort of materials here that people want to see, find and use.

I realised that I could post all sorts of stuff and if it is of no use then people mightn’t come back!

Traffic is increasing daily already and that is great – perhaps you have even added it to favourites! Or perhaps that is wishful thinking?!

Anyway I thought I would ask you – is there something you are looking for that you can’t find or something specific that you think I might be able to help with.

I am, after all, here to help. So if there is something you are after, would like to see or are just interested in then let me know here.

If I can help with resources or with links to places I think might be good, I will.

All that remains to be said is thanks for stopping by, and I hope you like what you see – comments and feedback to help me to improve the site are welcome.

All the best

Mr W.

Thanks go to Coventry LEA – I have to sort the Unit Analysis of the SAT papers, joy!

I find it helps when someone has done half the work for you!

If you are doing the same then this might help you out as well!

Helping Parent’s to Help their Children

Homework Help for Parents

A site with useful resources for parents to help their children learn in the same way that they are taught at school.

Parents of my class thanked me for them – they admitted they hadn’t been sure how to do it and now hoped they  could support their child more accurately at home and not confuse them the way they had before!

One said they needed to show it to her dad as he help most with homework – and we all know how much  grandparents want to help, and how little they sometimes know about the way it is done in school now!

Visual Literacy

Posted by watseducation on July 12, 2008

From September my school is embarking on Visual Literacy – it sounds very exciting and a new way to engage children in literacy and generate some new ideas.

I thought that I would look for some resources and stumbled across this and it looks great!

English-Slovakian Word Banks

Posted by watseducation on July 10, 2008

As we are all aware the increase in New Arrival pupils (EAL) is a challenge which we are all facing.

I have found this Slovakian word lists and thought they might be useful to others.

I have similar for Polish but will post these later (when I find them!)

They can be hard to find on they web when you are searching in a panic because a new child is starting this morning and they speak no english because they only entered the country yesterday.

I have been there and know how pressured you can feel!

If you know of any more places to find resources – let me and everyone else know here – any files you want to share to let me know and I am happy to put them up!
